Jasper Conran Wool Crepe Coat Dress

A black wool crepe coat dress by Jasper Conran, circa 1990s. Cut with defined shoulders and a shaped waist, the otherwise precise tailored line is interrupted by an asymmetric front panel that falls into a long, fluid drape.

Lightweight wool crepe is given subtle weight by satin binding through the interior, lending the coat its distinctive, controlled fall. Notched lapels, discreet welt pockets and a single covered button keep the construction deliberately spare.

A particularly strong example of Conran’s early tailoring, with the severity of a black tailored coat softened by an almost dress-like fluidity. Worn alone or over trousers, it has the character of eveningwear without relying on embellishment.
