Daniel Hechter 1980s Wool Pleated Skirt

Curator’s Note

A beautifully cut wool skirt by Daniel Hechter, dating to circa the 1980s. Made in Italy from pure new wool in a deep chocolate brown, with a wide fitted waistband falling into sharply pressed knife pleats.

The asymmetric button fastening runs from the waistband into the pleated skirt, giving an otherwise classic shape a subtle graphic detail. The substantial wool gives the pleats weight and definition while allowing plenty of movement.

A particularly good example of Hechter’s approach to ready-to-wear, combining precise tailoring with the ease of everyday clothes. The long pleated line and deep chocolate wool have a distinctly Parisian character - classic, understated and remarkably modern.
