Curator’s Note:
A sculptural black cotton velvet top designed by Thierry Mugler in 1992. Cut close through the body with a deep rounded neckline, sharply defined waist and subtle flare through the hips.
The restrained front contrasts with an intricately constructed back, shaped through curved seams that draw into the waist. A full-length placket fastens entirely with velvet-covered press studs, creating a strong vertical line from neckline to hem.
A quieter expression of Mugler’s body-conscious design language, where the drama comes almost entirely from cut and construction.
