A black jersey dress by Bruce Oldfield, Made in England and dating to the 1990s. Cut close to the body with short sleeves and a long buttoned front, the simplicity of the silhouette gives way to intricate gathering through the hips and a softly draped central panel.
It is a particularly good example of Oldfield’s ability to shape jersey around the body through cut and construction rather than embellishment. Understated from the back, almost architectural from the front, it has the controlled sensuality that defined much of his work during the period.
